According to the China Cardiovascular Health and Disease Report 2021 released by the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, the incidence and mortality rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD) remain the highest among all diseases. It is estimated that there are currently 330 million CVD patients in China. The situation for CVD prevention and control remains severe, with an aging population, increasing annual healthcare expenditure on cardiovascular health, and a heavy burden on social medical costs.
Years of domestic and international experience have shown that early detection and effective intervention management for high‑risk cardiovascular populations is a well‑defined, cost‑effective prevention and control strategy. Its effective implementation can extend the national life expectancy, improve the population's health and quality of life, and reduce the burden on families.
From Sports & Fitness to Medical Health – The Pulse Wave Journey
Pulse wave technology was first applied in the sports and fitness sector. A smart watch or band can conveniently monitor heart rate changes, and through heart rate monitoring, it can guide various exercises to achieve optimal training results. However, sports heart rate monitoring is only the most basic application of pulse wave technology. Capillary blood contains a wealth of information, and using pulse wave technology for early screening and early warning of cardiovascular diseases is now a major direction in research and application.
Founded in 2015, Jingfan Technology is a professional provider of pulse‑wave‑based cardiovascular health monitoring and data analysis services. Since its inception, the company has focused on designing and producing core components for health monitoring, enabling cardiovascular health assessment.
Jingfan Technology's core product is the JFC series chip. The JHC integrates more than ten basic health indicators, including heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, vascular elasticity, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and HRV (heart rate variability). These indicators can achieve medical‑grade accuracy. Early screening and warning of cardiovascular diseases are the core functions of Jingfan's health modules. Currently, the conditions that can be identified include atrial fibrillation, premature beats, escape beats, arrhythmias, and more.
Jingfan's pulse wave modules are different from those used in traditional smart watches or bands. The pulse wave modules in smart watches/bands have far lower accuracy than what is required for medical applications. In a recent comparative experiment conducted in a low‑pressure oxygen chamber at a certain military specialty medical center, a leading domestic smart watch brand showed significant gaps in signal precision and indicator accuracy when compared with Jingfan's pulse wave data.
Compared with ECG technology, pulse wave technology offers advantages such as greater convenience, lower cost, and a better user experience. An increasing number of clinical hospitals are also paying attention to the application of pulse wave technology in cardiovascular health. Jingfan has already partnered with Tianjin TEDA Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to conduct joint research on pulse‑wave‑based diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Through clinical trials, the diagnostic accuracy of pulse wave for certain cardiovascular diseases has exceeded 90%. In addition, Jingfan is collaborating with Huawei's health department on pulse‑wave‑based cardiovascular health research, and has already achieved preliminary results.
